The Burj Al Arab is the tallest and most luxurious hotel in the planet. It was planned and constructed in 1999 as the beginning for the amazing transformation of Dubai, from the oil-produce area into an interesting tourist destination. This tower, with 321 meters height, is raised from an artificial island - the first one in Dubai. The architects and engineers have to overcome many challenges to build the tower: how to build and secure the low-level island with only 7.5 meters height above the Arabian Gulf; how to complete the foundation while there is no bed-rock underneath; and how to keep the tower stable against 150 kilometer-per-hour gulf wind at hundreds of meters above the wave. Even when the exterior is finished, the interior design and construction are another major challenges. The interior designers have to expose the luxury and specialty of the hotel. After five years of hard working and innovation, the tower becomes a symbol of Dubai. A new era of tourism oriented begins for the city and the country.
