World's Tallest Bridge

The Millau viaduct in France is the tallest bridge ever built. The engineers have to face many challenges to build such of that record bridge with the tallest pier (243m), the tallest deck and roadway (243m) and the tallest tower (343m). In addition, there are several impressive records such as short construction time (less than 4 years) and no major accident while building the bridge. All of those incredible achievements make the Millau bridge one of the most significant bridges in the world.

Some famous architect and engineers who substantially contribute to the success of the bridge include:
1. Michel Virlogeux: the well-known engineer with a big vision. He is the one who proposed the first design of the Millau bridge 12 years before the construction started.
2. Lord Norman Foster: the British architect who brought Virlogeux’s design up to a new level. He made the bridge not only an engineering structure but also an art work.
3. Jean-Peirre Martin: the experienced engineer who always made sure that the construction was on schedule and within budget.
4. Marc Buonomo: director of the famed Eiffel company. He was responsible for the technologies to slide the decks and stand the towers. His company also manufactured all steel structure for the bridge.
5. Jean-Marie Cremer: the bridge chief engineer who, along with Buonomo, invented the hydraulic rams placed on top of each pier.
