North sea wall

One fourth of the Netherlands is under the sea level. For centuries, many Dutch generations have been fighting to keep the sea out of their land by building the largest sea defense structures. In 20th century, the climate change, the higher sea level and the fact that their land is continuously sinking, one again push them to the decision of swim or sink. The floods have taken thousands of people, countless number of cattle, and a lot of houses. To fight back the Mother Nature, for recent decades, the Dutch have built the longest dike, sluice gates, giant locks, and finally a retractable storm surge barrier – an engineering pinnacle. This episode will bring you to the largest and the best sea defense system in the world.
